The countdown to the biggest football tournament in the world has begun, and we've waited four years! Just to help kickstart the Word Cup soccer festival that is about to take the world by storm, I have compiled a list of 15 interesting facts about this year’s Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup to be hosted by Russia. 1. Russia was given the rights to host the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in its history. This historical moment took place on December 2, 2010. The matches will kick off on June 14, 2018 with the finals taking place on July 15, 2018. 2. This will be Russia’s 11 th  appearance in the World Cup. 3. Russia’s highest ever finish in the FIFA World Cup is the 4 th  position in the 1966 World Cup. 4. This will be the first FIFA World Cup to be hosted in Europe since 2006 and the first time ever a World Cup is hosted in Eastern Europe. 5. When injured: Ongoing problem (1st cursed in febraury).
Prospects: Doubtful for opener 
Fear looms over the world's best player, who could miss Potugal's crucial opening game against Germany on 16th june. There are rumours that he could even be ruled out of the tournament.

Prospects: Good
Holland striker suffered a Groin problem in the warm-up against Wales on Wednesday. The man himself says, "I wouldn't call it an injury. It built up during the game so I decided it was sensible to come off ."

Prospects: Doubtful
Talismanic Frenchman may eventually lose his long-standing battle with the injury. He has been included in the final squad, but his participation is a serious doubt.

When Injured: World Cup Training
Prospects: Possible
He appears to be winning his race for fitness and was included in Uruguay's final squad for the tournament. At worse he could miss the encounter against Costa Rica, but be fir for England.



Diego Costa Spain

Injury: Hamstring
When injured: Champions League final
Prospects: Hopeful
The atletico Madrid  forward virtualy made a guest appearence in the Champions League final. Coach Diego Simeone substituted him only after nine minutes of play due to his injury.
