The countdown to the biggest football tournament in the world has begun, and we've waited four years! Just to help kickstart the Word Cup soccer festival that is about to take the world by storm, I have compiled a list of 15 interesting facts about this year’s Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup to be hosted by Russia. 1. Russia was given the rights to host the FIFA World Cup for the very first time in its history. This historical moment took place on December 2, 2010. The matches will kick off on June 14, 2018 with the finals taking place on July 15, 2018. 2. This will be Russia’s 11 th  appearance in the World Cup. 3. But for two days every August Bank Holiday it goes back to its roots, when up to two million revellers descend on the district along with nearby Ladbroke Grove and Westbourne Park for Europe's biggest street party and a celebration of Caribbean culture, community, tradition, food and music. This year Notting  Hill Carnival is celebrated on August 27.

The festivities start with a colourful costumed parade, accompanied by drummers and giant carnival puppets. This is then followed by a huge medieval battle, when more than 500 people from re-enactment groups around Europe stage the battle of the Houses of York and Lancaster, complete with volleys of arrows and cannon fire. The main attraction is the royal arena, a large roped-off area of a field, which hosts jousting tournaments and falconry displays at specified times during each day.
